All positions: Work as part of the artistic team to help create a positive musical theatre
experience for youth which promotes a love of theatre and excitement for performance.
Must have strong capability to work in a team environment with great communication skills
and must possess the ability to maintain composure and professionalism. Previous experience
with youth is preferred. Perform tasks as assigned by the Artistic Director and attend all
production meetings.
Seeking the following positions:
Artistic Director
The Artistic Director leads the artistic team to create a positive musical
theater experience for youth by providing an educational and fun
environment for them to develop their theater skills. The Artistic Director is
in charge of creating and executing the artistic vision of the production by
interpreting the script, casting the production, collaborating with the
costumer, as well as planning and guiding rehearsals. The Artistic Director
oversees the production, supervises all logistics and operations related to
the production, and works closely with all production staff and volunteers.
Experience Requirements:
• Directing a full-scale theater production
• Theatre/Musical Theatre programs for youth, highly desired
• Working with youth of varying skill levels
The Artistic Director must have a positive and enthusiastic spirit, creative
vision, flexibility to multi-task and solve problems, excellent written and
verbal communication skills, strong leadership skills, and effective
organizational skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assists in hiring the camp team
• Meets with artistic team prior to camp (in person/Zoom, etc.) to share production
overview
• Discuss expectations and team duties
• Holds auditions to select cast roles
• Fosters a positive environment where youth are able to express their
creativity, develop their talent and build confidence
• Plans and leads production meetings
• Select CAP Council members, plan and lead weekly meetings
• Collaborates with the Stage Manager to coordinate production plans,
script changes and overall production design
• Collaborates with the Musical Director to determine the execution of the
production’s musical numbers
• Collaborates with the Choreographer to design dance steps and routines
for the audition and cast dance roles
• Collaborates with the Costumer to design and/or create quality
costumes that reflect the Director’s overall vision for the performance.
• Collaborates with the technical crew which may consist of lighting, sound
and set design
• Blocks the production’s entrances and exits, provides stage directions and
cues to actors during rehearsals and performances as necessary
• Organizes and leads rehearsals, prepares detailed notes for the cast and
for the production teams; resolves any issues that arise in rehearsals
• Helps to publicize the production by giving interviews
• Reports to the Board of Directors on a regular basis
• Supervises and evaluates artistic and technical personnel
• Supervises the maintenance of written procedures manual for technical
and production staff
• Ability to work with or learn Google Docs, Dropbox or any other software
deemed necessary
• Ability to use social media platforms
Music Director
This position requires a leader with effective communication, interpersonal, and
organizational skills. A strong background in vocal technique and an ability to work with
singers of varying levels are assets. Keyboard skills are required. Experience in musical
theatre and working with youth are preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Artistic Director in a manner that results in the
successful execution of a show’s musical numbers
• Attend all auditions and rehearsals
• Responsible for all musical accompaniment for the production
• Teach songs and lyrics of the show while teaching correct vocal
production and musicianship
• Understand the proper emotions that must be conveyed in each musical
piece and assist youths in figuring out the best way to approach their
songs
• Work to fully utilize the talents and skills of all members of at the youth
ensemble to best display their abilities
• Record and upload audition songs to CAP Facebook or Google Docs
Stage Manager
Assist the Director with camp organization, staging, and props. Organize crew for tech week
and performances. Help organize load-in and strike. Youth education, musical theater, and
stage management experience preferred.
Choreographer
Create and teach choreography to students. An ideal candidate has a dance education
background with knowledge of standard musical theatre and an excitement and enthusiasm
for working with students. Prepare daily warm-up activities.
Education Director
Help educate children in the field of theater through games and organized activities.
Demonstrated interest in working with young people and a positive attitude are
required. Educational and stage experience preferred. Must be flexible and willing to assist
with other production duties as needed.
Costumer
Work with the Director to design and/or create quality costumes for production. Qualified
candidates will be skilled in solving construction challenges unique to the theater field for
young actors. Skills required to fulfill the job requirements may include pattern
making, stitching, tailoring, millinery, puppetry, quick changes, and special effects. Design
opportunities may be available to qualified candidates, but would depend on schedule and
experience. Applicants should have strong management skills and be self-motivated.
Accompanist
Work with the Musical Director to facilitate teaching music and potentially play the
performances. Must be flexible and willing to assist with other production duties as needed.
